Porcelanosa New Flagship Showroom in New York by Foster + Partners

Porcelanosa has revealed designs by architects Foster + Partners for its new flagship showroom in New York’s Commodore Criterion building, which is scheduled to open in Spring 2014. The firm purchased the 1,700 square-metre, six-storey historic building (situated in Midtown Manhattan, northwest of Madison Square Park at 5th Avenue and Broadway, and opposite the Flatiron Building) in 2012.

As the Commodore Criterion, built in 1918, is included on New York’s protected properties list, the design team has preserved its historic exterior, while refurbishing the interior to feature full-scale vignettes showcasing Porcelanosa’s product portfolio (which includes floor and wall coverings, and kitchen and bath solutions). In addition, a design library (aimed at architects and designers with over 1,000 reference books on tiles, mosaics, stones, hardwoods and other materials) will occupy an entire floor of the building.
