River Island Summer 2014 Menswear

For the hot summer months of 2014, British high-street mid-market retailer River Island found inspiration for its menswear collection in the casual approach to fashion that typified the 1980s and the contrived sartorial codes that pervaded throughout the 1990s.

A range of poolside pastels and colourful Pop-art prints conjure the relaxed atmosphere of Miami in the mid-1980s, whereas a bold and playful ghetto bling aesthetic evokes the vibrancy of New York during the same period. Elsewhere, the inspiration of the 1990s is visible in the minimalist tailoring and patterning of suits and shirts, as well as in the grungy flannel shirts, acid-wash denim and tie-dye T-shirts.
