River Island Christmas 2014 Collection
The fact that the Northern hemisphere is going through the peak of Summer is certainly no threat to the fashion world. As an example of the defiance of the clothing and accessories industries against high temperatures and matching elevated humidity levels, British high-street and mid-market retailer label River Island has resolutely hosted a press event to unveil its Christmas 2014 collection on what was probably the hottest day of the year in London.
Revealing a strong emphasis on texture and a colour palette that combined deep hues for men and whites and bold shades for women, River Island’s designs featured an elegant abundance of velvet, fake fur, leather, same-tone patterning, late 1980s influences, lace and bouclé fabrics applied to elongated silhouettes. In menswear, highlights include shirts with large polka dots, coats with oversized fur lapels, cropped pea coats, patchwork leather bomber jackets, and a blazer with an ombré Prince of Wales black-on-black pattern.
